00:01:40 | Interview: Sheriff Todd Hood
[00:01:40] Sheriff Todd Hood: Oh, Peter. Thank you for having me. I appreciate it.
[00:01:43] Bob Savage: Great. Let's see. Hey, sheriff. Are are you on a a Bluetooth by any chance?
[00:01:48] Sheriff Todd Hood: I'm on a little bit.
[00:01:51] Bob Savage: Yeah. We we got a we got a little connection problem here, Bob. See if you can straighten that whole thing out. And, we'll get the sheriff, sheriff Todd Hood is the sheriff of Madison County and, has has been on the second amendment show several times. It's too bad we we didn't have him yesterday at, Bruce Blakeman's, you know, party down in Hornell. They, they, you know, Nick Langworthy and and Blakeman were making the southern tier tour.
[00:02:18] Bob Savage: They went from Tioga County to Elmira to Hornell, and then they were headed to Olean and then Jamestown after that. And by the way, the, right before the show came on, you heard a spot from, Matt Fritz and his, the his Which? Ditched the Witch signs. Somebody held one of those up in the rally yesterday in Hornell. Oh,
[00:02:39] Speaker 6 (unidentified): got him again.
[00:02:40] Bob Savage: Made, made a pointed reference. Let's see if we got sheriff Hood on. Sheriff, can you hear us now?
[00:02:46] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yes. This is actually for it now?
[00:02:48] Bob Savage: No. He's not on a Bluetooth. It's, I don't know. The the connection's not great. Can you get... Can you... We'll we'll try a couple more questions here, and then maybe you can get to a different location, but the, it's it's, the cell phone connection is freaking out.
[00:03:04] Sheriff Todd Hood: Callback landline.
[00:03:06] Bob Savage: You got a landline?
[00:03:08] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yeah.
[00:03:09] Bob Savage: Okay. Yeah. Why don't you do that, sheriff, if you would, please? Okay. Anyway, where were we here? We were talking about we were talking about the rally yesterday.
[00:03:15] Peter Vazquez: How was the attendance?
[00:03:17] Bob Savage: It was, pack house. That was Not not a big place, but it was totally jammed right to, you know, to the gills. And a very enthusiastic crowd of the, yeah, we we got the audio, somewhere of of the of that of that meeting, the the address that, Bruce Blakeman had. We also heard from couple of assemblymen, the the embarrassment of, representative riches down in in Hornell. We've got two assemblymen down there, Phil Palmisano and Joe Sempulinski.
[00:03:49] Bob Savage: They both had some remarks as well as, state senator Tom O'Meara, a long, long time, you know, political hand in the Southern tier, his dad before him, before that. And, of course, last and certainly not least, Hornell mayor John Buckley was there.
[00:04:06] Sheriff Todd Hood: Did you
[00:04:07] Peter Vazquez: get the selfies, Bob? No.
[00:04:08] Bob Savage: I did not get the selfies. We... Even though I was in the front row, they didn't let us to get that close. Yeah. But, but it was a it was a great party. And, as I say, the the streets of Hornell were throng. One of the things that was really interesting to note too is the number of lawn signs. They were like forests of lawn signs in Hornell everywhere you went.
[00:04:31] Peter Vazquez: Wow.
[00:04:31] Bob Savage: You know? And each one of them had, you know We have them on landline. Between three and between three and five lawn signs for, various different candidates, all on the GOP side. Nothing that I saw... Of course, I didn't drive down every street in Hornell yesterday, saw no evidence of any Kathy Hochul, Leticia James signs.
[00:04:50] Peter Vazquez: That's good because I get a little concerned sometimes with what I see going on in rural America and some of the pushes and investments that the Democrats are doing, to try to take over those places. And and it's sad because we're seeing poverty grow up with no resources happening in those places. I believe we got the sheriff back on. Sheriff Todd
[00:05:07] Bob Savage: Hood, welcome to the program.
[00:05:09] Sheriff Todd Hood: Okay. Hopefully, we got the, technical, difficulties ironed out.
[00:05:12] Bob Savage: A world of difference. Much better. We could barely understand what you were saying before. Thanks for coming on the program. And, boy, give us your 30,000 feet perspective of what's going on with the campaign this... At this late date heading up to the midterms?
[00:05:28] Sheriff Todd Hood: I I think the campaign is going amazing. You know, they they tried a little trick yesterday with the CNN poll. You know, they they put out, at 05:00 in the morning, the Sienna poll results would have had us behind by 14 points. Yeah. What they what they didn't tell you is that the poll, revolves around 807 people that they, pick from New York State. Upstate New York, New York City, and then Long Island.
[00:05:57] Sheriff Todd Hood: What they don't tell you though is that most of the time, Republicans, when they call with these surveys, don't talk to them because they don't know who's on the phone with them, and they don't trust them. So, you know, we've seen it before. I remember, with the the Trump election going to bed, you know, and, doom and gloom. And then we woke up in the morning, and and none of the polls were right. And he he won by a landslide.
[00:06:17] Sheriff Todd Hood: So, you know, I I I really don't have any faith in these polls, especially the Sienna poll, which is funded by New York state government. You know? Exactly. Okay. Now you now you have the governor in there pumping money into a poll, you know, that would benefit her. So, like I said,
[00:06:33] Bob Savage: I put... I don't keep pushing up. Hey, Todd. I don't know if you picked up on this too, that Sienna poll. There there was a, a, approvals, disapproval, rating of Kathy Hochul, showing that she's, you know, she's vastly preferred, has, I don't know. I can't remember what the numbers were. It's like 50 to 39% favorable for Kathy Okel. You know, you take a look at that, and you've gotta... You you gotta say... You gotta be joking. During during during, the the rally in Hornell yesterday, we were there. I was hoping you'd be around.
[00:07:04] Bob Savage: I'd like to... Would like to have met you because we've interviewed you a couple times on Yeah. On WYSL, WLEA. But, understand, you know, that you gotta you gotta spread the resources out across the state, but it was a it was a barn burner of a rally in Hornell with all
[00:07:19] Sheriff Todd Hood: Great. Yeah. I was down in Long Island in the morning, so I didn't get home till later on. We're, campaigning all over the state. So, yeah, they, it's funny because, you know, she's she's one of the worst governor in The United States Of America, and then... And the numbers come back like that. So go figure.
[00:07:35] Bob Savage: That's interesting. I did not know Sienna was found... Was funded by New York State government. Oh my gosh.
[00:07:41] Sheriff Todd Hood: Not not totally. That's part that's part of the equation, and then there's donors and everything. But, yeah, there's definitely New York State, government money involved in that.
[00:07:49] Bob Savage: Well, that, that confirms my suspicion that the Democrats are desperate. I I... You know, that they would stoop to a, an alleged poll showing Hochul leading Blakeman by 14 points.
[00:08:02] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yeah. And, you know, they they want people to be hopeless. They they
[00:08:06] Peter Vazquez: Yes.
[00:08:06] Sheriff Todd Hood: The Republicans to say, you know what? It's a lost cause. We're not gonna go out and vote. You know, they came they came back with that number, and that's why I'm gonna tell the people that are listening listening right now. Turn it off. Don't even bother listening to it. It's all nonsense. We need to turn out and get out and vote, and we're gonna pull this off in, five days here. You know why? Because we have to. Our state... The success of our state depends on this.
[00:08:29] Bob Savage: So sheriff Todd Hood, Madison County, a great, great campaign, a great patriot, a great champion of second amendment rights. Tell us what it looks like. You were down in Long Island, not, typically a... Regarded today as a Republican GOP stronghold, but what's it look... Looking like on the, on the ground on the island?
[00:08:49] Sheriff Todd Hood: Well, I'll I'll tell you, Nassau County is definitely a stronghold. They, the, you know, emotions are high down there. We probably had, 1,500 to 2,000 people at one of the rallies down there. We had another one in, Suffolk, later on in the afternoon, and, people are fired up down there. They want change. They're desperate for change, and, the motivation was high. You know? That's what I'm seeing.
[00:09:14] Bob Savage: Well, we're talking a little bit about, about the rally in Hornell yesterday, and, of course, that was, one of a series down the Southern Tier. And, god bless him, Bob, Bob d. Bob too just brought in a little piece of audio, from, from Bruce Blakeman yesterday in Hornell. Check this out.
[00:09:29] Bruce Blakeman (recorded clip): We're the highest cash gain in The United States Of America. So what I'm gonna do as governor is I'm gonna divide your state income tax. Your first $100,000 as a
[00:09:51] Bob Savage: Fantastic. Comment on that, sheriff?
[00:09:54] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yeah. So we work the numbers. This is gonna happen, if we win. And, that's a great thing to put money back in people's pockets. You know? The first $50 for singles is not gonna be, income tax in 100 for families, you know, over two people or... Excuse me. Two people for the first $100,000. You know, it's it's long time overdue. New York state has been oppressive with their taxes. Mhmm. You know, we we were down in Manhattan, yesterday also. And, you know, the congestion tax, all these things, you know, dollars at a time from a car.
[00:10:29] Sheriff Todd Hood: It's it's just insane. How much can you beat the people up and tax them? You know? And you're seeing the effects of it right now. You know what? My daughter moved out. Couldn't couldn't... You know, there was no jobs up here, and the taxes were sky high. She she moved down to North Carolina. I wanna bring her back. You know? I wanna bring all of the kids back. Families, the the second most important thing in my opinion in this world. And, you know, we gotta gotta get them back here.
[00:10:54] Peter Vazquez: Just by what he's talking about, Bob, these guys get elected. We already have a different New York state, an individual who understands family. That... That's something. Hey, sheriff. You know, I I do wanna ask
[00:11:04] Sheriff Todd Hood: a little bit in
[00:11:04] Peter Vazquez: the taxes because the Democrats or Kathy and and and out here Democrat people there, I guess. Right? They they like to propose expanded programs. They like to propose public investment, you know, things that make you feel good. And then, you know, when we start talking, right, we start talking a little logical, lowering taxes like you guys talked about.
[00:11:23] Peter Vazquez: But as I look at the landscape and and as I studied, you know, our district, at least up here in the Monroe County area, there's a lot of people on services in New York state that don't pay taxes, and that seems to be who the Democrats wanna keep molding for their votes.
[00:11:39] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yep. I'm gonna talk to them. I'm gonna tell you there's no explanation for all of this money that they're taking from us except for fraud. Yeah. And we are going to go in. We're going to audit. You know? We're gonna take a look at the books. We're gonna have people assigned to audit these agencies. And just the $8,000,000,000 that they've thrown away already, Imagine what that money could do for New York State. You're talking about $8,000,000,000. Do you know how many veterans that could help?
[00:12:06] Sheriff Todd Hood: You know, how many how many people, our schools, you know, mental health facilities, everybody's complaining about it, and nothing... No one's doing
[00:12:15] Peter Vazquez: anything. Yeah.
[00:12:16] Sheriff Todd Hood: That money could've went to build, you know, mental institutions, things like that. And and like I said, we're we're we're almost double the the, price of Florida and New York State, and they have more people than we have in in New York State. So there's no explanation for it.
[00:12:34] Bob Savage: Mister mister Blakeman had a had a had a, a stat yesterday that said that, you know, cost of governance in New York State is greater than Florida and Texas combined. Yeah.
[00:12:44] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yeah. And then it's out of control, and we're gonna come in and we're gonna clean up the mess. And I mean that. You know? Theresa Commerchetti and Joe Hernandez, you know, she's gonna prosecute criminals, which, Leticia James does not. She just goes after cops. Joe Hernandez, the comptroller, running for office, you know, he's gonna send people to jail for the fraud. And we're gonna go in and we're gonna take a look at things. We're gonna take a look at the government agencies in New York state. Where is this money being wasted?
[00:13:12] Sheriff Todd Hood: Are are all these agencies, you know, that they they create necessary? I'm thinking nah. I'm thinking there's a lot of waste where this administration's given people these cushy cushy jobs in creating them. And I think we can slim down New York state government and make it effective in the session again.
[00:13:28] Peter Vazquez: You know, sheriff, I've been working in nonprofits for a long time, especially in housing. And the one thing that always dumbfounds me is that we all have our missions. Right? But but we never really seem to have a plan to achieve that mission because, well, we end up losing funding. Ladies and gentlemen, I have the honorable sheriff Todd Hood, Republican and conservative candidate for lieutenant governor of New York State. We'll be right back right here in the next step show. Don't go nowhere.
[00:13:54] Bob Savage: Okay. We're bumping out with John Rich from Big and Rich, and, this is, his song about Kathy Hochul, dear Kathy.

00:15:35 | Sheriff Todd Hood interview, continued
[00:15:35] Bob Savage: And, first half of the program, we have a candidate for lieutenant governor, sheriff Todd Hood of Madison County. He's been on the second amendment show. We're pleased he took some time out of the busy campaign schedule to chat with us. Here's Peter.
[00:15:47] Peter Vazquez: He did. And ladies and gentlemen, I'm gonna wanna hear from you after this, after this discussion. Yeah? Sheriff Todd Baxter. Sir, you know, as I was preparing
[00:15:56] Speaker 2 (unidentified): for this
[00:15:57] Bob Savage: It's it's,
[00:15:57] Peter Vazquez: Todd Jeepers. Sheriff. Sheriff Todd Hood. Hood. Yeah. Hit me with a cup later. I'm sorry. Sheriff, I apologize.
[00:16:04] Sheriff Todd Hood: No. That's no worries.
[00:16:06] Peter Vazquez: Although aside from, you know, the sheriff here locally being a Democrat, he's he's a pretty decent sheriff, I think.
[00:16:12] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yeah. Absolutely. Yep.
[00:16:14] Peter Vazquez: Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, as I was preparing for this, sheriff, I, I I I realized that you haven't been in politics in the past. You're not like a politician. So so I wanna ask, right, what have you learned about the difference between political authority and and actual leadership? Because you can't become a sheriff if you're not a leader.
[00:16:32] Sheriff Todd Hood: Right. You know? And and I've spent my whole my whole career in law enforcement. You know, I I started out as a Syracuse cop. I did twenty two years with them. I worked for the district attorney's office in, Syracuse, New York, Onondaga County. Did two years with them, and then I've I've been the sheriff since 2017, in Madison County. And there's a lot of lessons that come with it, in leadership and taking care of people and just being responsible, you know, to the taxpayers of your county.
[00:17:01] Sheriff Todd Hood: Sheriff is a a very important institution in New York state. You know, most of us are elected Upstate. There's a few downstate that are appointed. But you get elected sheriff in Upstate New York, and you have the backing of the people. You know? And the majority of people in your county voted for you, and that's why you're in the job.
[00:17:19] Sheriff Todd Hood: And, it's just an amazing opportunity, you know, to stand up, for the people when they're being oppressed, to look after them, to take care of them, to keep them safe, and, you know, to do basically their will, through you as a elected official. So, I don't take it lightly. One of the... My big things is public safety. I've been very vocal about it. That's why Bruce chose me as his running mate. You know? There's a lot of nonsense going on in New York state. You know?
[00:17:49] Sheriff Todd Hood: You hear about raise the age, juvenile crime, and you know this is the Rochester show. Juvenile crime has almost doubled in New York State. Rochester, New York led the nation in stolen cars
[00:18:00] Bob Savage: Yeah. A few
[00:18:01] Sheriff Todd Hood: a few months ago. So this this legislation, the haulback, raise the age, it doesn't work. It's true when it doesn't work. The numbers are up. You can talk to any people in our state, and it's not working. You know, I'll be honest with you. These people put out laws, to repeal, excuse me, to to, you know, amend things. We really need to appeal all this nonsense to get back to law and order. There was no problem before bail reform.
[00:18:27] Sheriff Todd Hood: I've I've been a cop my whole life almost, and we have the ability to put people in jail when we needed to protect them, and they need to get back to that. Senator Helming has a Helming, has a law out. It's called the Protect Act legislation proposal. They would basically give judges the ability to lock people up when they're dangerous. Right now, we're the only state in the nation that a judge can't say, you're dangerous. You've reoffended again and again. Now you're going to jail, and you're not getting out.
[00:18:56] Sheriff Todd Hood: We're the only state in the country that doesn't have that. He's doing a a proposal to to make that happen. I'm I'm a big one on just repeal it. All of it works. If Bruce gets elected or when he gets elected, we could use an executive order to, get out of that legislation and do away with it for public safety reasons. I mean, people are getting victimized again and again, and they're getting... The criminals are getting let right back out of the jail and right back onto the streets.
[00:19:24] Sheriff Todd Hood: And, in my opinion, it's just bad legislation, and we need to get rid of it. They they made a mistake.
[00:19:29] Bob Savage: You're absolutely correct. The sheriff Todd Hood, from Madison County running for lieutenant governor, about the the crime problems here in the Rochester region, but this is also the locus. I wanna use your comments on this. A great injustice is done to corrections officers, in the New York State, prison system, particularly our Groveland, state prison here. And, you know, Bruce had some comments on that, but I'd like to hear what you have to say about that, Todd.
[00:19:55] Sheriff Todd Hood: So so Bruce has already stated he's gonna hire back all of them who wanna come back to New York State corrections because of the injustice, that was done. You know, this is such a simple issue. When when your children are misbehaved, right, you send them to their room sometimes as a little time out. They took that ability. You know, humans are no different working up. You have somebody in a state correctional facility, and they need areas to put them in where they're out of control. These places are not dungeons. Right?
[00:20:24] Sheriff Todd Hood: They're not in the basement. They're like dormitories in college for special housing units, and they took that away where they're not allowed to put these dangerous inmates who are assaulted in these special areas to get them under control. And this is what happened in New York state. You have normal men and women dealing with these inmates, and the frustration level is off the charge. And then these disasters happen in our state prison. Right? You need to give them the tools to control the inmates.
[00:20:52] Sheriff Todd Hood: If an inmate needs to be locked in there, so they do. You know? Nobody knows better. We're not the ones working in there. These corrections officers are in there day after day, and they need the tools to control the inmates. They're in there for a reason because they victimized and hurt somebody, and they need to have the tools to to survive and to succeed in corrections in New York state. And like I said, all of this legislation created this disaster in our prisons. We still have, national guard, people in our prisons in the state.
[00:21:25] Sheriff Todd Hood: It's costing us a fortune. And I talked to the corrections officers, like, they don't know what they're doing. They're not trained professionals. We are. We went to the academy. You know? There's just bodies in there, for a temporary fixture that's not working. So there... There's a... That's one of the biggest things that I've seen talking to corrections officers across the state.
[00:21:45] Bob Savage: You know, we're talking on the subject here. Talk a little bit, if you would, about the about the the dangers of of deploying national guard troops in the prisons.
[00:21:54] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yeah. It's it's like anything. You know? If you take, you take a police officer and you would just assign somebody that's not a trained professional, that's not an easy job. You know, the academy is six to nine months, when you train a cop, and you're just gonna... Going to assign somebody to go in there. You know, the military has different standards than we do in corrections and law enforcement. You know? They go to war. You know? We're responsible for keeping people safe in, you know, keeping the citizens of New York state.
[00:22:23] Sheriff Todd Hood: So it's just... It's not a good fix. It... It's... There's a lot of mistakes that happen when you get people in there that aren't trained. It's a hard enough job when you are trained. And then to put somebody in there that has no background in it, you know, you're... It's a disaster waiting to happen.
[00:22:37] Peter Vazquez: It's dangerous all the way around, but I think also more importantly, sheriff, we're also losing the rehabilitation part, the correctional facilities that's supposed to be providing the inmates. I mean, what's the point of locking somebody up behind bars to just let them out again? I mean, we might as well start cutting hands off and people's tongues off for lying. At least there's a lasting effect, and the victim doesn't get penalized again.
[00:22:58] Sheriff Todd Hood: Yeah. I I agree with you 100% on that. You know, they should be getting, rehabilitation in there. But right now, this is a place where the inmates are complaining. Yeah. So you're saying this this... When you get the inmates complaining, it's bad, and they are complaining. They, you know, they say it... It's it's not safe for anybody in there. It's it's total lawlessness, and, it's not a good place for it in New York state.
[00:23:21] Peter Vazquez: So so, you know, I'll tell you. I wanna talk a little bit on immigration. I don't wanna get too deep into it because we don't have a lot of time left on this. We have one minute. But but if you can, where would the, where would the Blakeman Hood administration draw the line between legitimate state authority and the local decision making? Because that is gonna be an issue when we take over New York State.
[00:23:40] Sheriff Todd Hood: Okay. I'll be I'll be quick. I know we got a minute left, and I think I have a good response for you. We need to create, centers in New York State for immigration. If you have been in here a certain amount of time working, doing your job, you you can go to these places, get a background check, get fingerprinted, get checked out where you're good to go get a Social Security number where you can start contributing to taxes in New York State just like we are.
[00:24:06] Sheriff Todd Hood: And the two eighty seven g program that we had is handling most of the other stuff as far as people. If you're in our country illegally and you're committing crimes, we pick them up in the county jail. We hand them off, to ICE, and they... They're out of here. It's it's a great program we have, but we're in New York state government too pro criminal legislation. We're going to do not allow you to, turn to an agreements with the ICE agents for two eighty seven g. Why would you do that? Because they're committing crimes already.
[00:24:33] Sheriff Todd Hood: They're in the country illegal. They come into our jail. They have no weapons on them, and we hand them over to ICE, and they send them back where they came from. That's a great program, and we need to get back to that.
[00:24:43] Peter Vazquez: Sheriff Todd Hood, Republican and conservative candidate for lieutenant governor of New York State running alongside the honorable Bruce Blakeman for New York state governor. Sheriff Todd Hutt, thank you, and may God continue to bless you and the work that you and your department continues to do, sir.
[00:25:01] Sheriff Todd Hood: Thank you, Peter. Hey. Say a prayer for us. We need to turn our state around. We got five minutes to get out and vote.
[00:25:06] Bob Savage: Absolutely. Get out there. Vote, vote early folks as you possibly can. Don't put it off. And... But, at at the very least, get there on election day. We'll be back with more here on the next step show with Peter, w y s l w l e a.

00:30:48 | Second-half commentary and Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons
[00:30:48] Speaker 10 (unidentified): on the Voice of Liberty.
[00:30:53] Peter Vazquez: Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey, Bob. Have you heard of something called decoy Dan in Alaska?
[00:30:58] Bob Savage: I love the Oh, yeah. Dan Sullivan. Yeah. Isn't that hilarious? It's not hilarious. What it is is it's disgusting.
[00:31:05] Speaker 4 (unidentified): Very disgusting.
[00:31:05] Bob Savage: What... I mean, what a what a lowlife thing to do. And if you don't know what we're talking about, there's a, guy... I I think is he a state... Is he a senator?
[00:31:14] Peter Vazquez: I think he's for Alaska State Senate. Yeah. State senator?
[00:31:17] Bob Savage: Anyway, he is he's he's an incumbent. He's an incumbent Republican. I don't... I'm not quite sure of what, you know, what position he holds. But, anyway, the the Democrats went out and found a note... They they canvassed the state looking for people named Dan Sullivan that they could possibly get on the on the, on the ballot to confuse Republican voters.
[00:31:40] Peter Vazquez: And this is confirmed, by the way. This is happening. Oh, yeah.
[00:31:42] Bob Savage: It's actually... It's been reported by the New York Times of all people.
[00:31:45] Peter Vazquez: Yep. Yep. Yep. You know, talking about Democrats, we got a Democrat running here in the city of Rochester who happens to be my kin as well. And the thing is this. Right? I kinda like this one Democrat. I wonder sometimes, you know, why she does things the way she does things to be the
[00:32:00] Bob Savage: the last name maybe?
[00:32:01] Peter Vazquez: We we have... Yeah. Prime, but Vasquez. Her her her her... Ladies and gentlemen, you've heard her here before, C. Mercedes Vasquez. Ma'am, thank you again for calling in.
[00:32:11] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Well, thank you for having me.
[00:32:14] Peter Vazquez: You know, I I I take a little fun sometimes picking on Democrats, Mercedes, but only because I sit back sometimes and just seeing what the overall party, not not you in particular, you know, pushes and supports. And I'm thinking they claim to be supporting We The People regardless of party affiliation and skin color, but boy, does it seem different.
[00:32:36] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Yes. I can I can see how you would think that?
[00:32:38] Peter Vazquez: I... I'm sure you can. What's going on in this campaign? One thirty seventh, you're running against, a a guy that really shouldn't be there anymore. What are you seeing in the streets?
[00:32:48] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Yes. So I I would agree with that statement. So everyone asks, you know, why are you running? And it's it's not typical that you would see another Democrat running, physically in in a general election, but I am running on an independent line. And I... And I'm running simply because I care, and it's really that simple. When you're having conversations with your constituents about what matters to them and what their priorities are, it doesn't match what his priorities are. And when we talk about, you know, what are those priorities?
[00:33:22] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Everyone is is worried about affordability. Our GE costs are through the roof. In fact, I was walking in 19th Ward and an entire street was tagged with a yellow line... A yellow sticker from RG and E. They're they're shut off and happened to run to a woman who's walking in, and it was after 05:00 on a Friday. And you could see the sheer panic in her eyes, and I thought to myself, this woman, is shocked to see this course. But she's trying to figure out now what do I do? My Argini, it's Friday.
[00:33:58] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: She's in scrubs, so she's coming on... I'm assuming she's coming out of work. And what are her recourses? What is they... What is she able to do? And she's walking with her little ones, and it was just one of those things she removed off the wall and quickly walked in. And then she engaged in the conversations and say, I I just don't know what I'm gonna do. I'm working two jobs. I have kids. What am I gonna do about affordability? And that's one of the things. So what are you gonna do? How are you gonna help me with RG and E?
[00:34:27] Speaker 4 (unidentified): Mhmm. You
[00:34:27] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: know, if if you... We were to elect you. If I'm gonna vote for you, what are you gonna do? And the first thing I told them is first thing I'm gonna do to help reduce costs, RGE is not accept any contributions. That that is absolute. And she looked at me and she was like, wow. That's the thing? I said, absolutely. That's the thing. And there's so much that the state can do to help reduce the cost of RG and E besides looking at... Of of course, we should be looking at alternative sources of energy.
[00:34:53] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: But when we look at the amount of taxes that are being imposed that are on your RG and E bill, and I encourage everyone, look at your RG and E bill. Really look at the post, you know, the the the line item outside of, you know, delivery. And there's a lot of costs in there that are state state driven that can be reduced. So those are some of the the conversations that we're having in our community along with public safety. Despite what you may have heard, the rhetoric that you've heard, we need police.
[00:35:23] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: And I think the majority of the people that are out there want to see police presence in our communities. So those are the top two concerns that I heard from the constituents to say what what can we do about our communities? Right now, we're seeing what's happening in our communities and it seems like there's not a police in sight. But guess what? There's not. Because we're short over a 100 police officers in the city of Rochester. Mhmm. So how do we change that? And it comes from, of course, from from the top.
[00:35:54] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: We have to prioritize the needs of the community and not the needs of those that are in power.
[00:36:00] Peter Vazquez: 100% all day and every day. Mercedes, before I forget, what's your website?
[00:36:07] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Mercedes2026.com.
[00:36:09] Peter Vazquez: And you are on the ballot. You're just... You're not in the... On the Democrat ballot or the Republican ballot. You're on an independent line. And say that line one more
[00:36:17] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: time. Yes. It's Mercedes Simmons Carris. So it's about the fifth line down, and I am the low... The only person on that on that line under New York State Assembly. So, you'll see duplications of of the names on... Under that category for New York State Assembly. I am running, as an independent all the way at the bottom of the upset ballot. Okay. And, yes. So so there... There's... Listen. There's been great excitement with this campaign.
[00:36:48] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: The primary didn't go as as I hoped, but I'm hoping to pick up those voters that were a little confused, during the primary. And it seems like there... We're seeing a good uptick of, voter participation this time around. And I'm... You know, it's refreshing to see. It's it's exciting to see, and I I I wonder if it's pre COVID levels. That... That's what I'm hoping for.
[00:37:09] Bob Savage: Hey. We're seeing
[00:37:10] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: folks out there.
[00:37:11] Bob Savage: Yeah. Bob, chiming in here. So do you detect anything different this election cycle than you've seen in in previous years when you run?
[00:37:20] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: I do see more, civic engagement, if you will. But something else that I that I'll mention is that I've always put political political fines out. That's that's what we do. Particularly in the city, we want to encourage, the voters, the voter turnout. The city historically has had low voter turnout, and I'm not sure what's happened in in the city, but they've decided that...
[00:37:44] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: And, I've received several complaints in the last, I don't know, months or so where a white truck with a cool little, emblem on it has been picking up my signs, and I'm thinking, now that's very interesting. Of all things you could be picking up, why are you picking up political signs? My shelf life, if you will, for these these science is short. After Tuesday, those things will all be listed. Yeah. It's become a priority. It it even, you know, supersedes trash.
[00:38:18] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: So, regular trash within the city of Rochester and other political signs and other signs that are out there. They've got the sewing company that's pretty much in every single corner. The signs. But my signs have been prioritized and the community has been great of sending me pictures. I've received the Ring doorbell footage of my signs being collected. Even when there's multiple signs in that corner. It's my signs that are being picked up. Yeah. So it... It's very concerning, a...
[00:38:49] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: You know, from a from a political standpoint, if we wanna encourage civic engagement, if we wanna remind folks, it's an election cycle is coming. How do we do that? And signage is one of them. They're not cheap.
[00:39:00] Peter Vazquez: No. No. They're not cheap. And the thing is, though, I don't think either party sometimes, especially when it comes to do with specific candidates that they may like or not like, don't always want us to be as successful as we can be, and they work against it. And Mercedes, I'll tell you, you know, sometimes I look at your campaign and what you're dealing with there, and I'm like, yeah. I know the feeling on my side of the aisle. And and it all has to do with the fact that you're an honest person who believes in your community.
[00:39:25] Peter Vazquez: Politics be damned.
[00:39:28] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Absolutely. I I would agree with that statement. I'm boots on the ground. If there is an issue, I'm present. And being present is very important. Mhmm. We were elected to a committee, a democratic committee to represent the state. Now I am going on year four, and I'll tell you I've yet to see the Mon Meeks at any of those. And that's four years Yeah. Worth of attendance, and I've not seen him not once. Now this is a... An elected position, yet I don't know, it's it's optional to him, I guess. So why bother being...
[00:39:57] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Why bother putting your name in for that seat if you're not gonna attend? So that's my commitment. Just, you know, switching, shifting seats here. On the county legislature, I've, which I've probably served for five years. I haven't missed one day. And in the in the term, right, the six years that I've been in or five and a half years I've been in the county. But I've lost my mother and I've lost my sister. But I haven't lost my my eye on what's important, which is to serve the community. I have to be present. We...
[00:40:31] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: There's important votes that are that are that are needed. Yeah. And you got elected for a reason. Yeah. So it's very troubling when you think about four years in a committee and you didn't take the time to to to even attend one of the meetings. That's very concerning.
[00:40:45] Peter Vazquez: And I don't wanna promote him in any kind of way, shape, or form, which is why. But I'll tell you what. It would be worthwhile for voters to take a look at his voting record in Albany, take a look at his attendance record in Albany. It'll be pretty done revealing. Mercedes, I got lines that are are are lighting up here. Give your website one more time.
[00:41:02] Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons: Mercedes2026.com.
[00:41:05] Peter Vazquez: Love you, because we'll be talking soon, and I'll have you on right after the elections. Ladies and gentlemen, it's me, Peter Vasquez. A key on the next step show. See you on the voice of liberty. Very proud. Today, we'll be right back right here. Don't go nowhere.

[00:43:37] Peter Vazquez: And we're pretty we're pretty balanced here, I think. Right? If you really believe in it, then then you know what? Defend it. I'll tell you. And and and check it out. See? Veterans. Myself. See? Let me tell you. We gotta vote. [00:44:15] Peter Vazquez: And see, the thing is this, I've met people in the military that that joined the military, and and and some of them told me to my face, Mida, I'm here for this or that
[00:44:24] Bob Savage: Let me see.
[00:44:25] Peter Vazquez: For for patriotism. But the thing is this, though. The thing is this. 99% of the people, and I'm probably exaggerating that number, but I don't think I am, who put on that uniform understand either when they joined or shortly thereafter, that what we are protecting is worth, well, voting for. Mike Hennessy, thank you for calling, sir.
[00:44:48] Caller Mike Hennessy: Hey, guys. Just wanted to remind everybody that tomorrow, Peter and I are gonna combine shows. We're gonna do next stop... Next step show at noon, and we're gonna do the good news talk for the weekend at one. And, we're gonna talk about all the all the races, all the candidates. You and I have interviewed every one of these people multiple times, and, we want you to hear, from us, you know, why you should vote for, change in Upstate New York.
[00:45:15] Caller Mike Hennessy: And the one thing I want to address tomorrow, Peter, that that that really needs to be addressed within the conservative Republican community is that if you're not going to vote for a governor, because of a one issue point because, you know, and it's pro life. If you're not gonna vote for Blakeman because he's pro choice, you are, putting evil back in that office. Don't tell me that, you don't vote for less evil. Listen. We have to vote for less evil.
[00:45:51] Caller Mike Hennessy: You know? It's it's less evil is still less evil. We're not in heaven yet. We have to deal with circumstances on the ground here on earth. And, if you're not voting because of a one issue issue with the governor, then you are putting us all at risk, and I wanna emphasize that.
[00:46:08] Peter Vazquez: You know, that is so true. And I've had this discussion with many people, you know, even within my inner circles, Mike, because we we... We've gotta stop trying to... Well, what is that wish for the perfect person? It's not gonna happen.
[00:46:23] Caller Mike Hennessy: No. We're on Earth. We're not in heaven yet. We're we're we're on a fallen Earth. If we think we're gonna get a candidate that we're gonna agree with every single issue up and down the line, it's never gonna happen. And if you stay home and you're a conservative... And I can tell you this. Thousands and thousands of babies will not die if Bruce Blakeman is in office. He's not gonna he's not gonna pay for people to fly in from conservative from conservative states to get an abortion.
[00:46:49] Caller Mike Hennessy: He's not gonna allow, medical providers to send out, chemical abortion pills into those red states to let... To sub... Subjugate the law. He's gonna stop all that. Thousands and thousands of babies will live because he's in the office in versus Hochul. If you don't realize that, you're on the wrong side of it. I don't care what you claim. It's it's it's false humility.
[00:47:12] Peter Vazquez: And and and I'll tell you just a little preview on tomorrow. You know, the one thing that I believe that Blakeman's administration, Sheriff Todd Hood, that whole group coming together with the with the rest of us. We're gonna be able to solve and reduce numbers like over 70% fatherless homes in Rochester, New York. Yeah. That might put you out of a job, though, Mike.
[00:47:33] Caller Mike Hennessy: Oh, well, yeah. They can come and try. They can take me away if they want. But, you know, the other thing I wanna point out there, if you're if you're voting for your favorite Democrat, you think this DSA, garbage hasn't affected them, you're wrong. Yeah. They're they're gonna vote with DSA. They're not gonna back... They're not gonna fuck up against DSA.
[00:47:54] Caller Mike Hennessy: If you got all these people that are coming in from the assembly in the senate that are these DSA socialist communist, and if you don't go along with the way they're going, you're out. You're gonna lose your committee permission. You're gonna lose your, money. You're gonna lose... So they're gonna vote with DSA. I don't care what they tell you. They're not gonna buck against the DSA. Your favorite Democrat, who seems like a moderate, who you've known for a long time, he's gonna vote with the DSA every time.
[00:48:20] Peter Vazquez: Yeah. They are. Mike Hennessy, ladies and gentlemen. Him and I, tomorrow here live at noon in the next step show. Mike, what do you think that tomorrow? Maybe we should open up the lines and say if there's any candidate or anybody voting wants a little prayer and discernment. Because, see, I'm comfortable with the votes that I do because I pray and I ask for discernment and I ask, you know, for for for for, well, for me to see what path I need to take in there. And it it opens up every time God puts leaders in places.
[00:48:49] Caller Mike Hennessy: I'd be happy to pray for anybody that wants prayer on this issue all day long.
[00:48:53] Peter Vazquez: My brother Mike, I can't wait to see you tomorrow.
[00:48:56] Caller Mike Hennessy: Me too, buddy.
[00:48:57] Peter Vazquez: See you. Don't forget the hot dogs.
[00:48:59] Bob Savage: Keep giving them heaven.
[00:49:01] Peter Vazquez: You too. I'm kidding about the hot dogs. Hey. I was watching a baseball or a Star Trek
[00:49:07] Speaker 1 (unidentified): Gary.
[00:49:07] Peter Vazquez: Star Treks and and one of the episodes this morning, and they said, don't forget the hot dogs.
[00:49:12] Bob Savage: Don't forget the hot dogs. Okay. Somebody was gonna get cooked, I suspect. Gary.
[00:49:17] Caller Gary: What's up, Peter?
[00:49:18] Peter Vazquez: How are you doing, my friend?
[00:49:19] Caller Gary: I'm doing well. Been processing chili for the winter. Woah.
[00:49:24] Peter Vazquez: I know where I'm going for dinner. Anyway,
[00:49:28] Caller Gary: yeah. I don't know if you know about it, but, we had a safe storage law in New York that prohibited people to have guns unlocked in their house, if they had minor children, which was anybody under, 16, I believe, and... Or mentally incompetent or a felon or whatever. If it was a prohibited person, you had to have your guns either, with a a trigger lock or whatever on it or in a safe. Well, now they've expanded that with this new version of that law, which is the very definition of infringement to take away slowly.
[00:50:04] Caller Gary: Now any gun, if you're not in attendance with it in any house, no matter who lives there, it has to be locked in a safe or disabled with a lock, which effectively, unless you have a pistol permit, how are you gonna, you know, keep your hands on a shotgun that you keep cleaning up in the corner for self defense? So she's made our homes now gun free zones. And, you know, people don't realize how evil and how dangerous this woman is in her total disregard for our civil rights, in particularly the second amendment.
[00:50:42] Caller Gary: And then the other question is, why are they so desperate to disarm or make it impossible to defend yourself if you're a law abiding gun owner and they put the other criminals gun owners back on the street constantly.
[00:50:56] Peter Vazquez: Oh, I know the answer. I I think I do. And it's kind of like a puzzle. So so so this is the thing. She, as in the governor, and now, you know, AOC, all those representatives there on the left side are in bed, and and I say that figuratively with the mayor of of New York City, the whole DSA. And when you look at their platform, right, and what they're trying to do here or saying they wanna do...
[00:51:16] Peter Vazquez: Look at Al Sayed and and what what he's promising and where he's going, what's happening in Dearborn, Michigan and Texas, what happened in France. That's why they need us disarmed.
[00:51:27] Caller Gary: Like, they got a plan. Right?
[00:51:28] Peter Vazquez: Yeah, man. It's not like they have a pen. They have a pen. No. Gary Stott I know it.
[00:51:32] Caller Gary: It's obvious that this is a thing to disarm us and ruin the second amendment. And you know what? Mike Bloomberg's so scared of these new, court cases that he just donated $22,000,000 to every town in in, Moms Demand Action.
[00:51:46] Bob Savage: Yeah. They did.
[00:51:47] Caller Gary: $22,000,000, and we're out sending Bill Robinson around the state scraping up money to fight all
[00:51:56] Peter Vazquez: We need some some...
[00:51:58] Speaker 6 (unidentified): You know what?
[00:51:58] Peter Vazquez: I don't even know how to describe those millionaires, Bob.
[00:52:00] Bob Savage: Do you... Anybody got an email address for Elon Musk? You know, I mean, I I think that we can, I think that we can outspend, you know, Bloomberg? I I I think we could... Can we get the richest man in the world on board? Problem solved.
[00:52:15] Caller Gary: Well, I'll work on that too.
[00:52:18] Bob Savage: Yeah. Appreciate it. Why don't you... Just just Google him, Gary. See if you can find him.
[00:52:23] Caller Gary: Alright.
[00:52:23] Peter Vazquez: Gary, we'll be talking soon, brother. Love you. Hey.
[00:52:26] Caller Gary: Love you too. Take care.
[00:52:28] Peter Vazquez: Hey. On a completely off... No, Bob. I wanna share something with you. It's nothing to do with elections. Pew Research Center on October 26, right, their data show that 97% of American adults use the Internet comp... Now compared to 52% in '2... In in 2000. By the way, it is National Internet Day. This is the first day that the UCLA sent a, text message from one computer to another, and the letters were l o, which was initially a false attempt. But I bring that up because, see, the Internet...
[00:53:02] Peter Vazquez: And this is the question we have to ask ourselves, ladies and gentlemen. Discernment's important. Elections are important. AI, here to stay. That's important. Has the Internet made America more informed, independent, and connected, or have we allowed convenient algorithms and digital dependency to compromise a judgment. Ladies, prayer can beat that, algorithm and men too, by the way. Yeah. Prayer beats everything. Yeah. It does. Anything else you can share from yesterday's visit down in Hornell?
[00:53:33] Peter Vazquez: Because I wanna end this show in a Bruce Blakeman view, but I needed to put the national Internet there because I love the Internet.
[00:53:39] Bob Savage: Well, you know, well, it is Internet day, so we we have to live up to that. What was really the most striking about yesterday, Peter, was the was the spirit. It was just, you know, everywhere you look, there was love, there was acceptance, there was enthusiasm, there was excitement for the future. All the stuff that, you know, these are all values that we've all come to expect and accept as Americans. And it's just it's just a great thing to behold, and you would be inspired if you were there too.
[00:54:05] Bob Savage: And you'll be inspired in New York State
[00:54:07] Speaker 17 (unidentified): if we
[00:54:07] Peter Vazquez: can get rid of these yokels. Yeah. We will. God, country, family. Be a leader. Be a leader. Be a leader. God bless these United States Of America, and don't let one second go by where you are not a voice for liberty.
